Throughout Mewnight's life, he had always been plagued with migranes. Sometimes, he's convinced that he's part psyduck because of it. The piercing, throbbing pain usually occurs when he is aggressive, which for Mewnight is a pain, because being aggressive is part of his daily routine. As the morning sun rose, he slowly crawled out of bed. His bones and muscles in his old body ached, and his eyes were bloodshot from lack of sleep. His body was slowly deteriorating, and he knew this. However, he lived through the pain. After all, he was a father, and he had a lover to take care of. He had much more important things to tend to than himself. Mewnight rushed to get ready to leave for work, pulling on his coat and brushing his hair at the same time. His boyfriend Variance was in the kitchen, making breakfast for him and the rest of the house residents. Unfortunately, Mewnight wouldn't be able to stay and chat for a little while. Today was the date for an important council meeting at the town hall. He represented all Pokemon in this council, so he needed to be early to make a good impression on his peers. Mewnight grabbed a couple pieces of toast, and a cup of coffee. He kissed Variance on the cheek before heading out the door. The difficult part of being an important political figure and scientist was that you could never be late.
Slamming his car door shut, he pulled out of the driveway and waved goodbye to his daughter, who liked watching him from her bedroom window. His daughter had just turned six, and it pained him to know he wouldn't live long enough to see her greatest triumphs. Highschool graduation, wedding, and perhaps even the birth of his future grandchildren. The years of neglecting his health had taken a toll on him. It was only a few months before that he had a kidney transplant, with his loyal and loving boyfriend as the donor. Yet, he couldn't seem to kick his neglectful habits. Just a couple weeks after surgery, he was smoking fat cigars and eating treats riddled with sugar. He didn't work out often, as he found it hard enough to do the simplest of tasks, like bending down to pet your cat. Mewnight knew that if he made better choices, he'd be able to live longer for his daughter. After all, she was the entire world to him.
After driving for ten minutes, he swerved his vehicle into the parking lot. He paid the parking fee, and found good spot that was close to the entrance of the town hall. A couple months before, he had received a disability pass because he was elderly and had difficulty walking without pain. It was embarrassing for him, but he knew he needed it. To think he was once a powerful, healthy being that could wipe out an army with a single dragon rage. That wasn't him anymore. He was a senior citizen, and he hated it. Upon finally reaching the door, Mewnight took a quick break to rest his legs. Luckily, there was a bench just inside waiting for him. Slowly, he lowered his body onto the bench, and observed as others walked by him. So this is what it felt to an old elderly man. Watching the world go by because of your deteriorating body. The meeting was in five minutes, so he needed to get up right away. Unfortunately, he couldn't find the strength in his body to lift himself up. He was so consumed in his misery that he didn't see the point anymore, and just sat there on the bench.. Here come the headaches again, as they usually do. Nobody stopped to ask him what was wrong or if he needed assistance at all. This reminded him of how cruel the world really is, and it's lack of sympathy for those who are at their lowest.
A hand extended itself towards Mewnight. A hand of a human. How unexpected! The human man asked Mewnight if he needed any help. To accept help from a lowly human worm? He really was desperate. Mewnight accepted the man's palm and stood up. Humans don't usually treat Mewthrees with much respect, so why was this man breaking that stereotype? After all, just a few years before, many humans died as a result of Pokemon fighting for freedom, with the mews leading them into the battle. Did this man want money? A favor? Probably. After all, humans aren't the type to do something nice without compensation. At least not most of them anyway.
The human man smiled. "You must be Mewnight Ferrington, I've heard much about you. I think your work on helping Pokemon worldwide is really cool. I'm here to deliver my dad his presentation notes. He forgot them at home."
This man? Supportive of him and his cause? It had to just be out of politeness rather than sincerity. Mewnight nodded his thanks to the man, and startes making his way to the meeting hall.
"You should use a cane, I think it'll help you get up and around easier." The man called after Mewnight.

"I don't need a frickin cane." Mewnight mumbled under his breath. It was obvious he did need one, and the man was right, but he didn't want to give the human the satisfaction. He entered the meeting hall, and scowered the room, looking for the chair marked with his name. Once he found it, he took a seat. His colleagues chattered amongst themselves. Back then when he was in his prime, he would chatter along with them, making fun of Don Franz, the oldest man in the council. Before Don passed away, he always groaned whenever he walked because of his arthritis. He was balding and would shed his gray hair all over the place. When he would lean forward, his body would rattle and shake. Those were good times, but now Mewnight realized that he was in fact, the new Don Franz, and that his colleagues were making fun of him. All because he was old.
The council meeting started. Matthew Leonard, the council leader stood from his chair.
"Thank you all for coming today. As you may know, these meetings are meant to help address issues with society. I assume that you all have some ideas for how we can make the city better for the citizens. First, I would like to congratulate Mewnight Ferrington,  for he has been in this council with us for over fifteen years, and-" Matthew paused when he saw Mewnight. He was asleep in his chair, softly snoring. The other council members were chuckling and smirking. Matthew shook Mewnight's shoulders, waking him up. "Mewnight, you can't fall asleep during these meetings."
Mewnight yawned and rubbed his eyes. He was so exhausted. Then, the realization hit him. He just fell asleep in front of several political figures that look to him for his advice and ideas, and now they looked at him like he was a clown! He got up and excused himself, and sat in the hallway on a bench. After the meeting was over, Matthew came out and sat by Mewnight. Unlike the other council members, he was more understanding of Mewnight's situation.
"Mewnight. I know you're going through a lot. I don't think you're taking this aging thing very well. You're very important to the council, but we can't do anything if you're not feeling your best. It's not fair to you to have to leave the house every day and come here in the condition you are, but it's not fair to us if we can't have meetings with you, our mewthree representative. I think you should retire, spend more time with family. I think you'd be happier if you got to spend more time with them." Matthew said.
Mewnight sighed heavily. "I don't want to retire. The wellbeing of the citizens of this city relies on me."

"They can't rely on you if you're like this. I'm saying this as a council leader and a friend. I think you should retire. You're more than acceptable to apply for social security. I think you should seize the opportunity. You're not going to live forever. You should live the rest of your days with the special people in your life." Matthew pat Mewnight's back.

Mewnight frowned. Matthew was right. He wasn't going to live forever, so he needed to spend more time with his family. He was assisted by Matthew to his car, and he drove home. That night, he slept better, but had to get used to the fact that he wouldn't get up the next morning for work. He would get up the next morning to have breakfast with his family, and even take his daughter to the park like he should. After all, that is more important.
Something I had worked on for a little while before, but didn't finish. Now to work on my half on an art trade. ^^
